SUGGESTED BIKE ROUTES
So many to choose from. So much to see & much more fun to experience the journey from a bike.

John Grimshaw (Ex-Chief Executive of Sustrans) was riding along NCN Route 56 & couldn't believe how beautiful it was. A ride along the coastal path was one of only 29 day rides recommended by John in The Official Guide to The National Cycle Network which covers 10000 miles of routes throughout the whole of the UK.
A MINI ADVENTURE

Leave City Giant & cross over the Strand. Turn right towards the Liver Buildings. Mersey Ferries landing stage is found by turning left along side the Cunard Building (Brunswick Street). Approximately 5 minute walk - less on a bike! Please note that for 2011 the Ferries sail from the Cruise ship landing stage. Continue along the Strand past the Cunard Building & turn left at St.Nicholas Place.

There are a few days when they won't sail because a cruise ship has docked. Please see Mersey Ferries website for details.

THE WIRRAL WAY

Start at City Giant - Get the train from James Street Station - take the Wirral Line to West Kirby Via Mersey Rail (28 min journey).

A gentle 12 mile ride along a former railway line. Again no hills to worry about & no traffic except for a short stretch on a quiet residential road. Start at West Kirby or at our base 2 miles away at Thurstaston.

West Kirby has lots of shops & restaurants & a Marine Lake. One of the nicest towns on the Wirral & definitely worth a look. Can be very busy in the summer though. Don't worry we are going to take you away to places much quieter!

From West Kirby Ashton Park is worth an immediate detour. Tennis courts, a bowling green, childrens play area & a lake. Soon you will experience breathtaking views across the River Dee estuary to North Wales. Pass another of the Wirrals many golf courses & be sure to stop off at the Thurstaston visitor centre & picnic site.

The pretty village of Parkgate is a favourite detour off the Wirral Way. Excellent place for lunch with take away, pubs & restaurants. What ever you decide be sure to include the famous home made ice cream.

Back on the route & the next highlight will be the preserved 1950 style railway station at Hadlow Road. Not a bad place to finish & turn round although officially the route finishes a bit further on at Hooton where there is a train station.

A BIG ADVENTURE
Combine the coastal route (mini adventure) with Wirral Way. To join these together you need to add a short ride from Hoylake to
West Kirby (partly on road).

Approximately 22 miles, but all nice & flat!

CYCLE ALONG THE MERSEY

It is easy to see why John Grimshaw of Sustrans enjoyed this ride so much.

A 4 mile ride from New Brighton seeing the wonderful Liverpool waterfront coming into view as you near Seacombe Terminal. A trip on the world famous Mersey Ferry
serenaded by Gerry Marsdens equally
famous song. Then a 5 mile ride along the Liverpool waterfront to Otterspool taking in the best of Liverpools tourist atractions:
The Liver Buildings, Albert Dock with the Beatles Museum & Tate Gallery.

All of it traffic free & unforgettable!

ROUTE 56

Stretching from Southport to Chester via Liverpool & Wirral. Suitable to people wanting to cycle a bit further & possibly return by train. Merseyrail is very cycle friendly & does not charge for bikes.

Scope to incorporate a trip on the Mersey Ferry. The route from Storeton to Parkgate is one of our favourites. Passing near the Brimstage Craft Centre (good spot for a tea break) & through Thornton Hough – one of Wirral’s prettiest villages before finishing with a home made ice cream at Parkgate.

Seacombe to Wallasey golf Course via New Brighton is another lovely stretch.

Most but not all of Route 56 is traffic free.
